Brindle Rottweiler: Coat Characteristics and Breed Guide 2022

Rottweilers are highly valued family dogs due to their natural playfulness, highly trainable nature, patience with children, and vigilant temperament.

They are excellent watchdogs that quickly learn to accept family friends, and their loyalty is of the highest caliber. Families who buy or adopt Rottweilers find that this dog has an extensive need for mental stimulation but rewards quality time with love, cuddles, and entertainment.

This guide will explore the Brindle Rottweiler, its coat pattern, and breed characteristics!

What Is a Brindle Rottweiler?

A brindle Rottweiler will boast a tiger-like pattern of dark stripes overlaying a brown coat.

The brindle Rottweiler has a coat with tiger-like stripes on its fur. Their appearance is further enhanced by a dense, smooth, and strong coat that’s common. It shows up on the coat as an overall brown color overlaid with black stripes.

Brindle Rottweiler coloring is not recognized in the official AKC breed standard, but it is a rare coat color that Rottweiler owners love to see and that Rottweilers wear well.

What Are Their Needs?

Rottweilers are robust working dogs, so they don’t need an immense amount of special care as far as having a tender personality or finicky physical needs. They benefit most from daily intellectual stimulation and exercise, quality wholesome food, and regular veterinary care.

These dogs require weekly grooming because they shed all year. They love grooming time, which is a wonderful opportunity to spend some quality time loving your Rottweiler and checking him over for other issues like fleas, ticks, and dry skin.

Rottweilers should be brushed at least once a week to collect loose hair before it lands all over furniture and clothing. A grooming mitt can be used multiple times a week to keep loose hair to a minimum.

They can be bathed when dirty but don’t have particular bathing needs. Ears should be checked regularly and kept clean on the outside using a soft cotton wipe or cotton ball.

This breed isn’t known to have any major health issues, but owners should be aware that these dogs are prone to hip dysplasia. Regular veterinary care is essential for dental care and advance warning on health conditions that may arise for a Rottweiler.

Are Rottweilers Purebred?

Rottweilers are purebred dogs. Although this isn’t the case in every instance, an easy way to recognize that your Rottweiler is purebred may be the unique color of the dog’s fur or its adherence in physical attributes to the AKC standard.

Even a mixed brindle Rottweiler is going to have an extremely beautiful coat. The unique brindle pattern is known to give dogs of various breeds immensely beautiful coats, and the brindle Rottweiler is no exception.

The best way to ensure that you’re receiving a purebred Rottweiler is to purchase from an AKC registered breeder that can give you the dog’s pedigree. A pedigree is issued for dogs with AKC registered family lines to ensure breed purity.

How Much Exercise Does a Brindle Rottweiler Need?

The Brindle Rottweiler is known to be a working dog, so they require an ample amount of exercise. They tend to be energetic and high-spirited dogs, and they enjoy activities that give them mental stimulation, exercise, socialization, and time with their loved ones.

Great activities for Rottweilers include:

  • Long walks
  • Jogging
  • Swimming
  • Fetch
  • Herding livestock
  • Frisbee
  • Agility training

Please be aware that Rottweilers are a banned breed in most municipalities for social activities. This means that they’re usually not allowed in dog parks, off-leash anywhere, and many parks and civic events will bar participation by Rottweilers.

Some states have banned the ownership of Rottweilers, and some countries have similar regulations. While it may not be a problem for you to bring a Rottweiler home in a state where they are banned, if you have trouble with your Rottweiler and it’s impounded, it may mean the worst for you and your dog.

If your lifestyle is intensely social and you love to participate in these types of activities and venues, then consider a different breed of dog. While we know that Rottweilers are friendly, protective dogs, they have a reputation for aggression and rough play, making them unwelcome in most social settings.

Is the Brindle Rottweiler Good With Kids?

According to the AKC, the breed is ranked as reasonably good with children, scoring 3 out of 5 total points. It’s important to note that any breed should be monitored closely when around children.

The Rottweiler, however, can do well with kids due to its loyalty and calm demeanor. The main thing that dog owners can do for any breed, including Rottweilers, is to complete obedience and dominance training during puppyhood. Professional training brings out the best traits in Rottweilers.

This means your children will be safe around your brindle Rottweiler, so long as it has the proper training and is monitored. These dogs tend to be very tolerant of children and have some traits that make them perfect for homes with children.

Rottweilers are great for families thanks to these inherent traits:

  • They are tolerant of children and can handle aggressive play
  • Protect children and other pets from dangers and intruders
  • Do not display excessive barking unless there’s a real need for alarm
  • They have a herding instinct which is nice for families with kids who wander
  • They have a sweet personality that can even be silly or mischievous
  • They have high mental and physical stimulation needs, making them excellent child companions

Keep in mind that these dogs are extremely powerful and large. Because of this, a Rottweiler could potentially hurt a child without even knowing, so monitoring interactions is a must.

Where to Buy a Brindle Rottweiler

You can buy a Brindle Rottweiler in several places. These dogs will cost anywhere between $1,500 and $2,500 if bought from an AKC registered breeder to ensure that the dog is purebred.

The price for a Rottweiler can go all the way down to roughly a bit over $500, though, this depends on where you buy your puppy and if it has papers to prove its heritage. Pet-quality puppies are cheaper than breed-quality or show-quality dogs.

Two common places to buy a Rottweiler are online and from a breeder. We also recommend rescuing a Rottweiler from a rescue organization.

Buy a Rottweiler Online

Buying a Rottweiler online is a bit risky because you may not be able to meet the breeder, the dog’s parents, or meet the puppy in advance. You have to rely on photos and the personal integrity of the breeder.

That isn’t to say that there aren’t reputable locations to buy Rottweilers online, though, such as the official AKC puppy marketplace. Purchasing the dog online means that you cannot meet your puppy until you pick it up or it arrives at your home.

We believe that meeting a dog’s parents and spending time with the puppy before bringing it home is essential to bonding success, so we always recommend buying a puppy that you can meet beforehand.

Additionally, purchasing a puppy online makes you vulnerable to scams and incurs high shipping costs. However, if you’re confident in the breeder you select, this can be a fine option for getting the Rottweiler that you want. We recommend contacting breeder references to ensure that you’re dealing with reputable people who take good care of their dogs.

Purchase from a Breeder

Another common location to buy a brindle Rottweiler would be from either a local or instate breeder. If you live in a state or city where Rottweilers are banned, you may need to travel farther to buy a Rottweiler and then bring it in-state.

WARNING: Bringing a Rottweiler into an area where the breed is banned can land you in some hot water, so buyer beware.

Because the brindle Rottweiler is not an AKC-recognized pattern, you may be able to get a better deal on this coat pattern. In areas where the Rottweiler is more popular, the coat pattern may cost more because it is unique and desirable for pet-quality dogs.

Ensuring that the breeder is reputable is important, and the best way to ensure that you’re not purchasing from a Rottweiler puppy mill is to purchase from an AKC registered breeder. This is not a bullet-proof method, but the odds are much better that you’ll get an ethically-bred dog.

Rescue a Rottweiler

We love dog rescue organizations, and this is a perfect way to save a brindle Rottweiler. There are brindle Rotts all over the United States who need foster care and adoption. We have found that rescued dogs can be the most loving and easily trainable dogs.

We recommend searching for a rescue dog on the Rescue Me! organization website for dogs available by state. Many states also have rescue organizations that are local or regional and offer foster and adoption services for residents in the area.

Things to Know Before You Get Your Dog

Before committing yourself and your home to a Rottweiler, ensure that you have the time and patience dedicated to raising one of these dogs.

Before getting a brindle Rottweiler, there are several important things to consider. One of the most important is considering if you’re going to use your dog for shows and competitions or as a family pet. A show-quality or breed-quality dog is much more expensive than pet-quality.

Another consideration is to ensure that you have enough time and energy to raise a Rottweiler. These dogs are known to be extremely powerful and active, which means that training from an early age is a must.

Although not known to be an overly difficult dog breed, a Rottweiler without proper training can be a problem, which is why they have a bad reputation. Rottweiler owners who train their dogs to work, play, and respect people can help save this breed from its bad reputation by bringing out the best qualities in their dogs.

Ensuring you have the time and energy to take care of a full-grown Rottweiler is important, as well. These dogs do require daily exercise which may take place in the form of walks, swimming, or other play and activities.

Brindle Rottweiler Health Concerns

Although Rottweilers aren’t known to be unhealthy dogs, they’re still subject to some common issues which the Rottweiler breed has. One of the most common issues Rottweilers will have is hip dysplasia, which is a malformation of the hip.

Another common issue is that Rottweilers can suffer from gastric torsion, which is when the stomach twists and will not allow the dog to digest food. These issues can be avoided by feeding your dog a high-quality diet and taking them to the vet for routine checkups to prevent the condition from becoming chronic or deadly.

Brindle Rottweiler Lifespan

The average brindle Rottweiler lifespan is between 8 and 10 years, with very old Rotts reaching 13. The best way to get the most years of friendship with your Rottweiler is to feed him a good diet, ensure he has plenty of exercise to stay strong and fit and give him regular veterinary care.

Overall, the Rottweiler has a fairly average lifespan for a dog of its size. Larger dogs tend to have shorter lifespans because of the stress that the larger size puts on the body.

Temperment of a Brindle Rottweiler

Rottweilers are known to be even-tempered, loyal, and extremely calm. These dogs are bred as work dogs, but their levels of aggression are extremely low when they are properly trained and socialized from puppyhood.

The dog is known to be extremely calm and confident, especially if raised well. With a larger dog breed like the Rottweiler, which stands up to 27 inches at the shoulder, training is crucial to bring out its best personality traits.

These dogs are known to be immensely loyal to their families and are fantastic family dogs because of this. They love to play, but are ever watchful, making them wonderful guard dogs. It’s easy for us to forget that a Rottweiler at play is still a guard dog, but the dog never forgets.

According to the AKC, the Brindle Rottweiler scores a perfect 5 out of 5 when it comes to being affectionate with their families. This breed loves to be a lap dog and takes every opportunity to cuddle and get the pets and scratches that they love.

The temperament and the health of the Rottweiler are often carefully managed by breeders and organizations like the American Rottweiler Club. We suggest that owners participate in clubs and organizations that fight for the rights of Rottweilers and their owners.

Rottweilers at a Glance
