We Tested the 5 Best Bully Sticks for Determined Chewers!

Dog owners know that their pups love to chew. They will chew on anything and everything, because it’s fun, calming, and helps reduce anxiety. As pet parents, we want to make sure that we give our dogs safe alternatives to chew on instead of furniture or our shoes.

Bully sticks are safe, effective, and all-natural single-ingredient chew sticks made specifically for dogs. Made from high protein 100% beef pizzle, they are dehydrated and dried out to create chewable sticks that help clean teeth, and reduce tartar and bacteria.

We tested 12 of the highest-rated bully sticks on the market and let our dogs chew to their hearts’ content. 5 of them were our dogs’ top picks, and we chose another 5 for our honorable mentions list. Let’s take a look!

How We Chose the Best Bully Sticks

Puppy chewing on a bully stick
Bully sticks are a great way to redirect heavy chewers’ chewing to something positive.

Before we started looking for the best bully sticks, we looked for the best companies. Companies like Natural Farm go to great lengths to be transparent about processes and ingredients to put your mind at ease.

Sustainability is also a huge part of this company’s values; they partner with One Tree Planted to ensure that a tree is planted to help counter deforestation with every online purchase. Sustainable, certified green packaging made with 51% recyclable sugar cane is used for all Natural Farm’s products.

From there, we looked for bully sticks that are responsibly sourced and all-natural. We made sure these chews came from free-range and grass-fed beef. Also, we make sure the beef is free from grain, antibiotics, hormones, and chemicals.

After looking through dozens of products, we tested 12 highly-rated bully sticks and narrowed it down to our top 5. Let’s take an in-depth look at them.

These sticks have great benefits for your pup as well. Chewing on one of these will stimulate and strengthen your dog’s jaw. It’s a great way to remove tartar and clean teeth.

Our dogs loved these bully sticks the best of all the ones we tried. They are pretty expensive, but the flavor, texture, and bite of these bully sticks were our dogs’ favorite.

Sizes: 4”-12” | Brand: Central Garden & Pet | Features: All-natural, Beef Pizzle | Dogs: Small to Large Breeds

What We Liked

  • Great for dental health
  • Easily digestible
  • Single-ingredient

What We Didn’t Like

  • Sizes of sticks can vary greatly between each individual

Cadet serves up a pack of a dozen bully sticks made from real bull’s pizzle. Packed with protein yet low in fat and calories, you’ll give your dog a treat without causing him to pile on the pounds.

We found these thick and long-lasting chews are ideal for all our breeds, and they are designed to be easily digested. Our dogs didn’t have any digestive issues with these, which gives us peace of mind.

The only thing that kept these from the top spot was that the selection of bully sticks was rather varied in each bag. So, some dogs got a nice big one and others didn’t. They loved chewing them either way, we just prefer more uniformity.

As with all the best bully sticks, you’ll find these chews are great for your dog’s teeth, cleaning them and also minimizing bad breath.

What We Liked

  • All-natural
  • Great for bigger dogs
  • Removes tartar

What We Didn’t Like

  • Individual sticks may vary in size

Next up are some all-natural beef pizzle sticks, again from Natural Farm. Available in multiple sizes and thicknesses, these 12-inch jumbo chews are extra-thick and come in packs of 5.

Our dogs love this giant bully stick! They’re a bit pricey, but they really are great. Some of our dogs were unable to finish the bully stick in one sitting which left us with a bit of a mess, but we don’t mind so much if the dogs are happy.

Made from real beef and containing no grains and no rawhide, you’ll give your pup an all-natural taste sensation, while at the same time promoting great dental health.

This company channels some of its profits into charity and non-profit work for canines, so you’ll not only be giving your dog a treat, but you’ll also be helping other dogs indirectly.

Sizes: 4”-12” | Brand: Jack & Pup | Features: 25-pack, Beef Pizzle | Dogs: Small to Large Breeds

What We Liked

  • Great for medium-sized dogs
  • Ingredients from grass-fed cattle
  • Great for oral health

What We Didn’t Like

  • The odor is quite strong

If you have a medium breed and you’re looking for bully sticks your dog won’t whittle down to nothing in minutes flat, Jack & Pup offers the longest-lasting chews we tested.

In return for bully sticks built to last, you’ll need to put up with a pretty strong smell. The bag says they don’t smell, but the ones we got were pretty strong. If you can stomach this, your dog will thank you when he gets his teeth around these things. We made our dogs take them outside.

Promoting sound gum and dental health, these bully sticks are great all-rounders, and they’re also the longest-lasting chews on our shortlist.

Sizes: 6”, 12” | Brand: Barkworthies | Features: 5-pack, Beef Pizzle | Dogs: Small to Large Breeds

What We Liked

  • Long-lasting for smaller dogs
  • Relatively odor-free
  • Free of artificial preservatives

What We Didn’t Like

  • Some of the bully sticks stink

When you’re searching for the best bully sticks, you’ll find that many of them have a really strong smell. If you don’t have a cast-iron stomach and you’re looking for odor-free bully sticks, you can’t go wrong with Barkworthies.

Suitable for all breeds, these chews are long-lasting as well as odor-free, so while they aren’t especially cheap, they represent solid overall value.

Our dogs responded well to this brand, though we have to admit they like the stronger smelling ones. This is one case where our opinions and our dogs’ opinions are never going to match.

Oddly enough, some of the sticks we got from this brand stank really bad while others were fine. We aren’t sure why this would be, but some online reviews mentioned this as well.

We love that they are free of unnatural additives and contains all-natural beef. Now you can give your hound a taste of the wild without stinking up the house.

The Winner

Natural Farm Bully Sticks really are the best around. All bully sticks are expensive, but for the money, you get long-lasting sticks with minimal odor. Plus, the company is environmentally friendly. Our dogs’ opinion is most important in this case, and they clearly preferred the Natural Farm Bully Sticks, so it took our top pick.

Honorable Mentions

Here’s a brief look at the 5 options that didn’t make our list.

1. Nature’s Gnaw Small Bully Sticks

Nature Gnaws delivers some first-class bully sticks intended for smaller breeds. While these chews are blighted with quality control issues, they nevertheless make your best bet if you have a small dog at home. For a smaller dog, we believe Jack & Pup Bully Sticks would be your best bet.

2. Best Bully Sticks

An all-around good product. Rawhide-free, minimal odor, good price for a pack of 24 chews. These chews, however, are not recommended for bigger dogs. We believe Natural Farm Bully Sticks are a better option.

3. Pawstruck Bully Sticks

These beef pizzle chews are available in a range of sizes to suit any size dog. Multi-dog households will appreciate the ability to buy these things in bulk at a decent discount.

The sticks may come really thin which will not last long which is why we prefer the Barkworthies Bully Sticks.

4. Downtown Pet Supply Bully Sticks

Downtown Pet Supply makes some great pet gear, including these beef-flavored bully sticks well worth trying, especially if your dog doesn’t like any of the others we recommended.

Although these chews are not cheap, they’re ideal if your dog is an aggressive chewer that typically splinters cheaper bully sticks. Natural Farm Bully Sticks are a superior choice in our opinion.

5. Amazing Dog Treats Bully Sticks

Last but not least in today’s showcase of the best bully sticks come these all-beef chews from the Amazing Dog Treats Store. We thought it was a good product, however, the odor of these chews is very strong.

We suggest Barkworthies Bully Sticks instead. While they aren’t always odor-free, we had better luck with the smell.
