Keep reading to learn more!

The Fi Dog Collar and How it Works

The Fi Dog Collar is a GPS-tracking device that attaches to your dog’s existing collar.

It relies on cell service and Wi-Fi to pinpoint your dog’s location anywhere in the world, and it works with Android and iOS devices.

The Fi app lets you set up custom Geofences, so you’ll be notified if your dog leaves a designated safe area.

You can also see where your dog has been for the past 24 hours and receive real-time updates on its location.

In addition, the Fi dog collar includes a built-in light that makes it easy to spot your dog in the dark.

It’s also waterproof, so you don’t have to worry about damage from rain or water.

To set up the Fi Dog Collar, you’ll need your smartphone and reliable WiFi.

Before you use your Fi Collar, you’ll need a few things.

  • The Fi Collar, the Band, and Fi Base. All three components must be physically present with you to use the Fi Collar.
  • A mobile device that meets the minimum requirements.

For Android devices, this means Android 6.0 or higher (also known as Android M or newer).

For iPhones, this means iOS 13 or higher (including the iPhone 6s & 6 + and higher, as well as the iPhone SE 1st generation).

  • Access to a Wi-Fi network.

Once you have these things, you can start setting up the collar!

How to Set Up the Fi Dog Collar

You'll need the Fi App to use the Fi Dog Collar.
Make sure that you’ve downloaded the Fi App and created an account.

1. Download the App

Before you can set up and use the Fi Collar, you’ll need to download the Fi App on your smartphone.

After creating and logging into your account, the app will provide step-by-step instructions to finish configuring your Fi Collar.

2. Create a Dog Profile

Enter your phone number or create a Dog Profile by tapping “Create Dog Profile”.

Then, fill in the blanks with your dog’s name, breed category, gender, birthday, and weight.

Next, you can select to upload a picture of your dog from your phone, Instagram, or gallery. Alternatively, you can choose to add no image.

NOTE: Linking your Instagram account to your Fi profile will result in your Instagram handle being displayed in rankings to other Fi customers.

You can also invite other owners. You have the choice of bypassing this by tapping ‘next’ without asking any owners to join the profile.

3. Configure Your Fi Base

Once you’ve downloaded and logged in to the app, you’ll need to configure your Fi Base.

We recommend a location where your dog spends most of its time but is also within range of your Wi-Fi network.

The app will scan for the Fi base and once it finds it, it will connect to the base.

It can take a few minutes for the software to complete this task.

After a few minutes, you should see a message that says, ‘It works with Wi-Fi.’

4. Connect fi Base to Home Network

After the app and base connect, the next step is to connect the Fi base station to your home network.

Keep in mind that the Fi Base only works with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks.

When you’ve selected a network and entered the password, hit “continue” to connect.

While the app is working, you’ll see a ‘Connecting’ screen. The ‘Connected to Wi-Fi’ screen should pop up once you connect.

To set your base location, tap “Set Base Location.”

5. Enable Safe Zone

After completing that, you can enable your Safe Zone by tapping ‘Enable.’

This is critical in ensuring the safety of your pet.

The app allows you to create a safe location for your pet by entering an address and designating how large an area you would like the virtual fence to encompass.

6. Configure Alert Preferences

You can then configure your alert preferences after you save your Base Location.

If you want to receive push messages as well as SMS notifications, make sure you enter a phone number when you set up your account.

7. Activate Your Dog’s Fi Collar

After you’ve set up your alerts, it’s time to put your Fi collar on the base.

The activation process will begin when you turn on your Fi collar.

The app will display a loading screen while it searches for your dog’s collar.

You will receive a “Collar activated” alert when it’s fully set up, at which point you can put the collar on your dog.

That’s it! You’re ready to go!
