How We Narrowed Down the Best Reflective Dog Collars

The best reflective dog collars
Reflective dog collars help passersby to see you and your dog at night.

Any loving dog owner that walks their furry friend after dark should seriously consider taking measures to make sure passing vehicles can see their dog from a distance.

Buying a reflective dog collar will help you achieve this.

Before we continue on with our reviews, here are some things we considered in our testing to find the best reflective dog collar out there.

  • Type of collar (or harness)
  • Comfort and effectiveness
  • Materials
  • Level of reflectivity
  • Size options to fit the most dogs
  • How it performs in the real world

We considered things like the type of collar itself.

Regular collars are usually ideal for the majority of our canine friends, but if your dog is prone to pulling or even slipping out of its leash, you should consider using a harness

We found some great reflective harnesses, but more on that later.

We also rated them based on the comfort of the collar, nixing ones that rubbed our dogs or had a tendency to pinch fur.

We also looked for collars that have sizes to fit most dogs.

We also had to think about things like materials. The most reflective material out there is nylon and/or neoprene.

This is the best material for these collars. Also, it is important to make sure the collar has reflective material all around it and not just in one area or side.

In order to figure out which dog collar is actually the best reflective dog collar for owners everywhere, we then searched favorite shopping sites everywhere for dog owners’ favorites.

After we compared reviews and top-selling collars, we narrowed down our selection to 19 of the best collars, and we put them to the test.

We have reviewed the 5 best options out there, and we have a list of 9 honorable mentions to follow.

5 Best Reflective Dog Collars

1. Best Overall: PoyPet No Pull Dog Harness

PoyPet No Pull Dog Harness

Product Ratings

Size Options4/5

Neck Size: 10 to 12.5 inches | Weight: 2.4 oz. | Brand: PoyPet| Dimensions: 9 x 7.5 x 0.7 inches | Material: Nylon & Mesh |

What We Liked

  • Huge Range of colors
  • Padded and Breathable Harness
  • Adjustable straps and 2 leash attachments

What We Didn’t Like

  • Some reports of harness shifting around

The PoyPet Dog Harness was our first choice for many reasons. It really does have it all, and our dogs liked it as well as we did.

Number one in design, it has a wide variety of colors to choose from and a unique design.

This was important in our testing because dog owners don’t want to struggle with putting a harness on their companions.

This choice was designed in an easy-to-wear way with 4 quick-release buckles that make getting the harness on and off very simple and fast.

There is no need to go over your dog’s head.

It also comes with a unique no-pull feature, which is a huge plus for us.

By using the D-ring on the front of this harness, dog owners can get their dogs to stop pulling.

If your furry friend pulls, the harness redirects that energy sideways toward you. Over time, this teaches your dog to walk nicely next to you.

Here’s where you can find more information on how to teach your dog to stop pulling.

Another great plus was the size of this harness. This pick comes with 6 different size choices. That makes it suitable for any dog owner of any size breed.

It’s very important to measure your dog before buying any harness.

You’ll know the harness can fit if you can easily slip two fingers between the fur and strap.

Our top pick also comes with a 4-way adjustment feature, which allows owners to adjust from four points, so it can fit well, and you can adjust it as your dog grows.

This became our number one pick because it had the best, sturdiest, and most durable material for a dog collar

The buckle is made of sturdy plastic. It has a wear-resistant Oxford surface. The strap is nylon which is a great reflective material.

Also, the harness itself is made of breathable mesh and includes a soft padded cushion, making it very comfortable for your furry friend.

Even the D-ring is made of durable metal.

2. Runner Up: Joytale Reflective Dog Collar

Joytale Reflective Dog Collar

Neck Size: 8 to 12 inches | Weight: .71 oz. | Brand: Joytale | Dimensions: 12 x 0.63 x 0.16 inches | Material: Nylon |

What We Liked

  • Remarkably reflective threads
  • Quick-release buckle curved for comfort
  • Can be personalized

What We Didn’t Like

  • Some complaints about the tag falling off

Our runner-up is a great, affordable collar that we loved and we think will work for dog owners everywhere.

The best thing about this dog collar is that you can personalize it.

This is really important in case your dog gets lost. All customized texts are engraved by laser, and are non-toxic.

We actually tested dog collars that could be personalized. Be sure to check our Best Personalized Dog Collar article out!

Customers are able to add up to four lines of personalized information, such as dog name, address, owner phone number, and so on.

Another great thing about the design of this collar is that it includes a quick-release buckle that curves for the comfort of your four-legged friend.

We love this because it doesn’t rub and is less likely to pinch fur.

This collar is great for dogs of any size. It has five different options for you to choose the size that suits your breed best.

You can also adjust the collar if your dog is still growing.

This collar is made from high-quality, premium reflective nylon, which is a strong and durable material that’s perfect for pullers.

The reflective stitching is very effective for those long night strolls.

We love that the collar is padded with soft neoprene and very comfortable for your dog.

We recommend that you check your dog’s neck for signs of skin irritation after wearing any neoprene collars or harnesses because this material can cause contact dermatitis, especially if the dog has been sweating with it on.

3. Best For Big Dogs: Babyltrl Big Dog Harness

 Babyltrl Big Dog Harness

Product Ratings

Size Options3/5

Neck Size: 11.8 to 21.6 inches | Weight: 6.74 oz. | Brand: BabylTrl | Dimensions: 6.57 x 5.94 x 2.68 inches | Material: Oxford |

What We Liked

  • Secure harness for bigger breeds
  • Stops pulling without choking
  • Grab handle and leash attachment

What We Didn’t Like

  • Material could be stronger

For anyone with a larger breed, this harness is a must-have because it’s comfortable, sturdy, and designed to discourage pulling.

This choice comes in a lot of color options including camo. This is one of our favorite features of this harness.

This dog harness is made with a simple design. This includes buckles that snap closed quickly so you can take it on and off your dog easily.

This harness was also designed so that pulling pressure is evenly distributed in order to prevent choking.

The locking feature is designed to make this harness way more secure, which of course, we love because it keeps our dogs safer.

While this choice does come in four size options, it is ideally designed for medium to large breeds.

It does, however, include adjustable straps to create a custom fit for your four-legged pal.

While oxford is a good material, nylon is the best for reflective purposes.

This harness has some nice reflective strips all around to increase visibility.

We love that it has a grab handle made of nylon, which is an extremely sturdy material, and it has front and back D-rings for maximum control.

4. Best For the Price: NIMBLE Dog Collar

NIMBLE Dog Collar

Product Ratings `

Neck Size: 15.35 to 24.8 inches | Weight: 3.98 oz. | Brand: NIMBLE | Dimensions: 10.9 x 2 x 1.2 inches | Material: PVC-coated polyester |

What We Liked

  • Affordable collar compared to some others we tested
  • Highly reflective stripe that runs the length of the collar
  • Waterproof coating so it doesn’t get soaked
  • Scent-reducing due to the PVC coating

What We Didn’t Like

  • You have to hook the leash to both metal rings to keep it from tightening

This dog collar is one of our more affordable options with some of the best overall functionality and reflectivity.

We love that for dog owners on a budget, because let’s face it, most of us are.

Our number four pick is designed to be waterproof. This is great for furry friends who enjoy swimming!

You don’t have to take it off and let it dry after a day in the pool or at the lake. This keeps your dog safely in ID tags and lets you leash up straight out of the water.

This choice also comes in a variety of colors that are bright and reflective.

It is also designed to be scent-reducing, thanks to the PVC coating. This is a great and rare feature for these reflective dog collars.

This option comes with three different size choices to accommodate all of our furry friends!

We love that it has a money-back guarantee if you don’t like it or you pick the wrong one.

This product was made to be durable and strong.

The innovative coated polyester material provides extra durability and can withstand any weather and use.

This material is so strong it can withstand over 750 lbs of max force tension.

5. Top Seller: Blueberry Pet Multicolored Stripe Adjustable Dog Collar

Product Ratings

Size Options4/5

Neck Size: 7.5  to 20 inches | Weight: 0.81 oz. | Brand: Blueberry Pet | Dimensions: 20 x 0.75 x 1 inches | Material: Polyester with 3M reflective material |

What We Liked

  • Lightweight collar with highly reflective stitching
  • 15 unique color combinations
  • Can be personalized

What We Didn’t Like

  • Not fully reflective all around the collar

A great thing about this last pick is that it comes in various patterns, not just colors.

All of the bright color options are meant to attract attention to your dog on a night stroll so that passing cars can see them.

The loop tied to the logo on this collar is specifically designed for attaching dog charms, tags, pendants, or accessories.

This dog collar can be personalized with your dog’s information.

This dog collar has four options of sizes that owners can choose from, making it perfect for a dog of any size.

The downside to this dog collar is that the reflective threads are stitched only into a part of the polyester webbing instead of the whole collar.

However, we found that it is a highly reflective material, and works well for keeping your dog visible in low-light conditions.

The buckle is very robust, and we love the color selections that make this collar unique.

The Winner

After carefully testing many reflective dog collars, we chose the PoyPet No-Pull Dog Harness as our number one.

This wasn’t an easy choice because many of the products have very similar features, but this harness was the safest, all-around best option for dog owners and their furry companions everywhere.

How to Choose the Best Reflective Dog Collar

Consider Your Dog’s Size

When buying a reflective dog collar one of the most important things to consider is your dog’s size.

This is not only in order to choose the correct collar or harness for your furry companion but for safety purposes.

You wouldn’t want the collar or harness coming off during your walk.

A collar should fit with two fingers gap between the neck and the material.

This ensures that it is tight enough to not slip off, but not too loose to catch on something and risk strangulation.

It also keeps it comfortable for the dog without giving it an opportunity to turn the collar into a chew toy.

Material is important because it needs to be reflective in order to achieve the purpose of protecting you and your dog during your walk.

Nylon has some natural reflectivity, but ideally, the collar or harness has some sort of reflective material, edging, or stitching as part of the design.

Type of Control

Consider whether you would need a harness or a collar.

A harness is a little bit safer in case your dog is prone to pulling or if you just want that extra support.

Harnesses also come with designs that discourage pulling including front D-rings and martingale loop designs.

Dog collars also may have a martingale loop available to help you train your dog to stop pulling against the leash.

Our Blueberry Pet pick has a reflective martingale loop collar available which we think would be a great choice for dogs who pull.

Honorable Mentions

Here’s a brief look at 9 options that didn’t make the list of our top choices.

1. LovelyDog Embroidered Collar

This is a great choice for those who want to personalize their dog’s collar.

It also comes in great colors with a reflective edge. We found it wasn’t as sturdy as we needed.

A more sturdy option that did make our list and that can also be personalized is the Joytale Reflective Dog Collar

2. Ruffwear Front Range Dog Harness

We love this harness, and it is highly padded for comfort. It didn’t make our top choices because it was rather expensive.

A more affordable choice that we did include was the PoyPet No-Pull Dog Harness, which had many similar features, but is more budget-friendly.

3. CollarDirect Reflective Dog Collar

This collar had all the right features, but it didn’t make our list because customers had poor things to say about it.

Some even complained that it frays after a short amount of time.

4. Bolux Dog Harness

We loved this harness. However, it didn’t make our list because it is restricted to small dogs only.

A harness that we did choose for our top 5 was the Babyltrl Big Dog Harness, which can accommodate larger breeds.

5. TagMe Reflective Nylon Dog Collar

This reflective dog collar has great color choices but we didn’t pick it because of the recurring customer feedback that the buckle kept popping off.

This is extremely unsafe in our opinion and so we instead picked the Blueberry Pet Multicolored Stripe Adjustable Dog Collar which also has great color choices.

6. Regal Dog Products Reflective Dog Collar

This was one of the only waterproof dog collar choices.

It didn’t make our list because it wasn’t made specifically to be reflective, though the bright colors probably would achieve the same purpose.

The Joytale Personalized Dog Collar was our pick instead, made to be reflective, and you can even personalize it.

7. Barkbay No-Pull Dog Harness

We have here an overall great-looking harness with reflective stripes and a front D-ring to help control your dog.

In our opinion, the PoyPet No-Pull Dog Harness is more effective and a little more comfortable too.

8. Max & Neo Nylon Dog Collar

We really liked this collar because it has reflective stitching and a martingale loop to discourage pulling.

9. Taglory Reflective Collar

This reflective dog collar is the most affordable option on our list. You’ll also love the adjustable feature, robust D-ring, and locking buckle.

Our only complaint is that the reflective stitching isn’t as visible as it could be, and overall it seems less robust.
