7 Best Doormats For Dogs (Clean Paws & A Tidy Home!)

If you have dogs, you’ve experienced the struggle of letting them inside after they’ve done their business in the yard on a rainy day.

Being a dog owner is one of the greatest joys in life, but there are a few things that we could do without, like our fur babies tracking in mud.

So, how can you get rid of muddy paw prints while still letting your dog go outside and explore their yard?

Investing in a doormat for dogs is the first place to start. It seems a little silly at first to have a doormat just for paws, but once you see the results of using it, you’ll want one at every door.

We tested a dozen doormats to see which one would be the best at effectively cleaning your dog’s paws before they come inside.

After extensive testing, we narrowed them down to the 7 best doormats for dogs (and 2 honorable mentions).

How We Narrowed Down the Best Doormats for Dogs

Dog sitting on a doormat
We looked for doormats for dogs that were easy to clean, effective, and dog-themed for a cute touch!

We included some popular brands in our test and compared them to budget brands to see how they compared.

Some doormats surprised us in both positive and negative ways.

Top Brands like My Doggy Place and Furhaven were tested to see if their products lived up to their great reputation.

We also wanted to take a look at brands that aren’t specifically made for dogs, such as Beau Jardin, to see if they made any products that would live up to high standards.

Our top picks can be found on multiple websites because we know that availability and buying options are important to you.

We used 4 important factors as criteria for testing: Material (the type and the quality), Anti-Slip Bottom (did it work?), Easy to Clean (could it be cleaned easily or was it a hassle?), and Design (were there options to choose from or is it just one design?).

Here’s an in-depth look at how each doormat ranked in our testing.

Easy To Clean5/5
Design5/5

Sizes: 24” X 17” to 70” X 24” | Fiber Type: Microfiber | Brand: Gorilla Grip | Shape: Rectangle | Anti-Slip?: Yes |

What We Liked

  • Available in tons of colors and designs
  • Comes in many different sizes
  • Made with microfibers for easy cleaning
  • Comfortable on your dog’s paws

What We Didn’t Like

  • Not low-profile (get’s stuck under doors)
  • Takes a while to dry out once soaked
  • We wish there were different shapes available besides only rectangle

This doormat is great and long-lasting, but if anything does go wrong, it’s backed by a 10-year warranty. We also love it has tons of colors and styles to choose from.

Material & Design

This is a microfiber mat which means the fibers are great for catching dirt, dust, and mud.

We found that the microfiber mats were soft on our dog’s paws and felt great after playing hard in the yard.

We like that it also comes in over 25 different colors, and some even have designs on them, so they fit any space or style.

When we tested this doormat, we loved that we didn’t have to choose functionality over design because this mat delivers both.

Playing in the yard can be a messy affair, and if your yard gets particularly messy, check out our guide to the Best Dog Booties to protect your pup’s feet!

Anti-Slip & Cleaning

We love the anti-slip feature on this doormat because it’s no match for accident-prone children or dogs.

The bottom has anti-slip rubber backing, which will stay in place.

This doormat will stay in place even on hardwood floors and after it’s gone to work and absorbed water throughout the day.

To top it all off, this doormat is machine washable, so we didn’t have to worry about cleaning out all the nooks and crannies once it was dirty.

It is also machine dryable on a low-heat setting. Since the mat is made with microfibers, high heat could cause the fibers to lose their ability to absorb water.

2. Most Absorbent: Internet’s Best Chenille Dog Mat

Product Ratings

Material5/5
Anti-Slip 5/5
Easy To Clean4/5
Design5/5

Sizes: 35” X 25” & 60” X 30” | Fiber Type: Microfiber | Brand: Internet’s Best | Shape: Rectangle | Anti-Slip?: Yes |

What We Liked

  • Very soft on our dog’s paws
  • Made with absorbent chenille microfiber material that’s highly absorbent
  • High-quality materials that last over time

What We Didn’t Like

  • It’s a little pricey
  • Not low-profile (gets stuck under doors)
  • Doesn’t do well with the vacuum because it starts to fall apart

We named this dog doormat our runner-up because it offers many of the same features as our top choice.

It’s made with high-quality materials, which we love, and it’s soft on our dog’s paws.

Material & Design

This doormat is with premium microfibers which means it absorbs messes and traps dirt.

The microfibers seem to grab the dirt off our dog’s paws and trap it until it’s ready to be cleaned.

We love that it comes in grey or brown, providing the option to choose the color that works best in any home.

It’s only offered in two sizes, which we didn’t love because it doesn’t provide many options to fit different areas in the home.

Our dogs will love how soft it is, and we love the dark colors that hide the dirt and mud from guests.

Anti-Slip & Cleaning

When we were looking for a doggy doormat with an anti-slip bottom, this was one of our favorite choices.

It’s made with non-slip rubber on the bottom, which means this doormat won’t budge even on our hardwood floors.

It is a bit expensive, costing around $40 for the smaller size and just over $55 for the larger size. We believe it’s worth the money since it’s made with high-quality materials.

One thing we didn’t love about this doormat was cleaning.

When we put this doormat in the washing machine, the microfibers started to shed and ended up all over the house.

We had to clean this one the old-fashioned way by beating it outside and letting the dirt come off in the yard.

Vacuums and washing machines were not our best friends with this doormat, so be cautious when deciding how to clean this one.

3. Best Budget Buy: Furhaven Self-Warming Mat

Product Ratings

Material5/5
Anti-Slip 3/5
Easy To Clean5/5
Design5/5

Sizes: Small- XXXL| Fiber Type: Microfiber | Brand: Furhaven | Shape: Rectangle | Anti-Slip?: Yes |

What We Liked

  • Made with comfortable microfibers
  • Comes in a wide range of sizes
  • Can also be used as a towel to clean paws
  • Comes with a 90-day warranty

What We Didn’t Like

  • The non-slip bottom doesn’t work as well as it should
  • Not low-profile (gets stuck under doors)
  • Only comes in a few colors

We love a great product that doesn’t break the bank, and this doormat fits the bill.

It’s made with microfibers that our dogs love because it feels great on their paws. It’s also relatively easy to clean, which we love.

Material & Design

Much like our top two best doormats for dogs picks, this doormat is made with high-quality microfibers, which our dogs love.

It’s great for trapping dirt in the mat instead of allowing our dogs to leave a trail of footprints all through the house.

The colors are all neutral tones which means there’s one available for every style.

We also love that there are sizing options from small to XXXL, which means we could find the perfect size to fit our needs.

We would have liked to see better designs and colors, but it’s not a bad option for a budget buy.

The prices range from $10 for the small doormat to just under $60 for the XXXL doormat.

Anti-Slip & Cleaning

This doggy doormat isn’t the best when it comes to anti-slip materials because the bottom does not have any rubber material to stick to hardwood floors.

We found it was good for carpet, but it’s not a great option for hardwood flooring.

What it lacks in anti-slip, it makes up for in cleaning ability. This doormat is safe to go in the washer on a gentle setting, making cleaning it a breeze.

We recommend using the washing machine infrequently to prolong the life of the microfibers.

It’s also best to hang dry, so try to avoid using the dryer after it’s been washed.

4. Best Microfiber Mat: My Doggy Place Absorbent Microfiber Mat

Product Ratings

Material5/5
Anti-Slip 4/5
Easy To Clean5/5
Design4/5

Sizes: Small-XL, Half-Moon shape| Fiber Type: Microfiber | Brand: My Puppy Place | Shape: Rectangle, runner, half-moon | Anti-Slip?: Yes |

What We Liked

  • High-quality microfibers for absorbency
  • Comes in a wide range of sizes
  • Has many colors to choose from to match decor
  • Comes from a trusted brand

What We Didn’t Like

  • The non-slip bottom isn’t great
  • Accumulates water under the mat which could ruin flooring
  • More expensive than other options

My Puppy Place is a trusted brand for dog products, so we had high expectations for this doormat. Here’s what we found.

Material & Design

This brand had the best quality microfiber doormat that we tested.

The microfibers in this specific brand were fantastic at trapping all dirt, mud, and water from dog paws.

It’s also great at trapping dirt from shoes after being outside and working in the yard.

There are plenty of colors to choose from, some of them unique, such as the sage green option, and plenty of sizes to choose from.

It’s a little expensive, but the high-quality materials make up for the price.

Anti-Slip & Cleaning

Another reason we love this doormat is the anti-slip feature. It’s great on hardwood floors, so we don’t have to worry about our dogs slipping on this mat if they’re running in the house.

We found that water gets pooled underneath this mat.

When our dogs have been coming in and out, and there is a lot of water that has been absorbed, it gets pooled under the rug, which leaves standing water.

This is not good for hardwood floors and could cause more severe problems with the carpet.

We found that it will need to air dry after it gets wet, and we have to wipe up the area under the mat.

It’s machine washable, making it very easy to clean as needed, allowing us to get other things done around the house instead of shaking out a dirty mat.

5. Widest Design Variety: DII Coir Doormat

Product Ratings

Material4/5
Anti-Slip 4/5
Easy To Clean5/5
Design5/5

Sizes: 18” X 30”| Fiber Type: coconut coir fibers | Brand: DII | Shape: Rectangle | Anti-Slip?: Yes |

What We Liked

  • Tough coconut coir fibers trap dirt
  • Comes in a wide range of fun designs
  • Great size for many applications
  • Low profile so it fits under most doors

What We Didn’t Like

  • Not very soft, so it’s tough on sensitive paws
  • Only has one size option
  • Fibers start to fall off over time so it has to be replaced

This doormat is made with tough coconut coir fiber, which is great for getting off dirt and mud in hard-to-reach places.

The fibers are high-quality and will also be great for getting dirt and mud off our shoes as well as the dogs’ paws.

Material & Design

Coconut coir fibers are a rugged material that is great for the toughest messes. It’s soft enough to wipe our dog’s paws on but tough enough to tackle tons of mud and dirt.

We loved all the cute sayings and designs on these doormats.

We love that these doormats are fun and vibrant, and they’re certainly better than a generic welcome mat.

Our dogs love the feel of the coir fibers on their paws after a long day of playing in the yard, and we love that it catches all the dirt that they bring in.

Anti-Slip & Cleaning

This doormat has a rubberized back which means it’s safe on hardwood and carpet.

It works quite well as a non-slip mat but should be used cautiously after collecting excess water.

Cleaning this doormat can be quite a challenge.

This doormat can’t be thrown in the washing machine, so we have to shake it out outside to get the dirt and mud off of it.

This can be a bit time-consuming and could flare allergies.

Another thing we don’t love about this doormat is that the fibers start to come off and will be tracked throughout our house.

Upon repeated use (and cleanings), the fibers come loose from the bottom and get tracked in by our dog’s paws and our shoes.

6. Best Indoor Dog Doormat: Beau Jardin Indoor Doormat

Product Ratings

Material3/5
Anti-Slip 5/5
Easy To Clean5/5
Design4/5

Sizes: 28” X 18” to 47” X 28”| Fiber Type: Carpet fibers | Brand: Beau Jardin | Shape: Rectangle | Anti-Slip?: Yes |

What We Liked

  • Low profile to fit under most doors
  • The size and material are great for indoor use
  • Anti-slip backing
  • More affordable than other options we tested

What We Didn’t Like

  • Very thin so it can’t absorb a ton of mud and water
  • Fibers start to fall off

We love this option for a low-profile indoor doormat.

It comes in three sizes and a variety of colors, which we love because we can choose the one that fits our style and our space.

Material & Design

These doggy doormats are made from soft carpet fibers, which means they’re comfortable on our dog’s paws.

It’s only about ⅗ of an inch thick, which means it’s super low-profile that we love. We don’t have to worry about it getting stuck under any doors.

It comes in three sizes, so we’ll have some options when we have a specific spot in mind for this doormat.

We love that it comes in eight colors, so we can choose one that is stylish and functional for our space.

Anti-Slip & Cleaning

This doormat has a great anti-slip back.

The low profile feature is super important, especially with hardwood floors, because it will prevent dogs and children from slipping on it, which we love.

Since it’s a skinny mat, it won’t be the best for wet conditions.

If it takes on too much water, it will start to pool, soaking into hardwood floors or the carpet.

Another thing we noticed is that over time, the fibers come off and get everywhere.

Our dogs that like to rub and scratch their back on things thought this was a scratch post.

The fibers got on our dog and then over our house, which isn’t fun to clean. This dog doormat is best used in low-traffic areas since it’s so hard to clean.

7. Best Heavy-Duty Outdoor Dog Mat: Gorilla Grip Heavy-Duty Doormat

Product Ratings

Material5/5
Anti-Slip 5/5
Easy To Clean4/5
Design3/5

Sizes: 17” X 29” to 72” X 24”| Fiber Type: woven polypropylene | Brand: Gorilla Grip | Shape: Rectangle | Anti-Slip?: Yes |

What We Liked

  • Heavy-Duty polypropylene material for longevity
  • Great for high-traffic areas, especially outdoors
  • Rubber border and backing make it rugged
  • Available in 5 sizes

What We Didn’t Like

  • Only one design and color
  • The larger ones are more expensive than other options
  • Rough texture is not the most comfortable option for dog paws

Gorilla Grip makes a great heavy-duty doormat that’s great for outdoor use.

It’s a great brand, and this specific mat is perfect for high-traffic areas of the house, like the main door.

Material & Design

This doormat is made with woven polypropylene fibers, which are extremely durable.

It’s great for the back door or garage door (any door that dogs come in and out of) and is long-lasting.

It comes in five different sizes, which is great because it will fit any space or style that it’s intended for.

We wish there were different color options or designs because it’s not the best-looking doormat.

That said, the functionality and durability make up for the lack of colors, in our opinion.

Anti-Slip & Cleaning

We love that this doggy doormat has a rubber border and rubber backing.

It’s great for accident-prone kids or dogs that get tripped up on other doormats or rugs because it’s a smooth slope leading up to the mat.

It’s great for anti-slipping because the back is made with a thick, durable rubber that will stay in place through repeated use.

Cleaning will have to be done the old-school way for this doormat. We had to shake it out to get loose dirt or mud off instead of washing this one.

We loved that we could run the vacuum over it or use a heavy-duty shop-vac to save time and effort!

This is the doormat we want when we need something to trap the biggest messes.

The Winner

Overall, Gorilla Grip Original Indoor Mat was our favorite doggy doormat. It ranked perfectly in all four categories, and it’s super soft, so our dogs love it.

How to Choose the Best Doormat for Your Dog

Consider How Often It Will Be Used

If your pups love running in and out of the house, you’ll probably need something very durable that will last a long time and can handle tough messes.

If you have a plush green yard without mud spots and dirt pits, you’ll probably be fine with a soft microfiber mat.

Decide if It Will Be Better Used Indoors or Outdoors

If you would rather have your dogs wipe their paws before they come in the house, choose a heavy-duty doormat that will be fine outside.

If you like having your dogs wipe their paws once they get inside, try a softer option such as a microfiber mat.

Looking for more ways to keep your dog’s paws clean? We put the Best Paw Washers on the market to the test in this review. Check it out before you go!

Consider If You Need Low-Profile

If you choose an indoor mat to fit your needs, decide if it will need to be low-profile.

If you want to avoid the doormat getting hung up in the door as it opens or closes, try choosing a low-profile doormat.

If your door opens to the outside, you won’t have to worry about how thick the doormat is!

Honorable Mentions

Here’s a look at 2 great doormats that didn’t quite make our best doormats for dogs list.

1. Soggy Doggy Doormat – Microfiber Doormat

This great microfiber doormat was super soft on our dog’s paws, so they loved it.

It comes in 10 colors, all with the outline of a bone on them which is cute and gives the option to find the one that will fit in any space.

We didn’t love that it only comes in two sizes, and they were very expensive.

We liked My Doggy Place Asborbant Microfiber Mat better because it has more variety and is more affordable.

2. HOMEIDEAS Chenille Mat – High-Traffic Area Mat

This doormat is great for high-traffic areas such as the back door or main door.

It only comes in dark colors, which is great for hiding dirt but not great for coordinating with your style.

It’s easy to clean, which we love, but you will need to air dry this one.

We thought it was a great doggy doormat but wished it came in other color options and was better for holding water. We preferred the Best Chenille Dog Mat over this one.

If you have dogs, you’ve experienced the struggle of letting them inside after they’ve done their business in the yard on a rainy day.

Being a dog owner is one of the greatest joys in life, but there are a few things that we could do without, like our fur babies tracking in mud.

So, how can you get rid of muddy paw prints while still letting your dog go outside and explore its yard? Investing in a doormat for dogs is the first place to start.
