We Found the 10 Best Dog Booties for Your Furry Friend

When it comes to buying equipment for your dog, you probably opt for a winter jacket, but is that all your pup needs when he’s out and about?

If you think about the most vulnerable part of your dog, chances are it’s those soft and plush paws.

Cesar Milan recommends footwear to help avoid hazards due to extreme terrain and weather.

With the best dog booties, you can keep those paws safe and sound.

According to Small Door Veterinary, dogs can suffer paw issues from allergies, extreme temperatures, and hiking on rough terrain, making booties an important accessory for your dog.

We decided to put 13 different dog booties to the test and see how they perform in the real world.

These 10 are our favorite dog booties, with 3 runners-up to follow. We’ll tell you why they didn’t make our top picks.

How We Chose the Best Dog Booties

Dog wearing booties in the snow
Booties help to protect your dog’s paws against extreme heat and cold.

Whether you need booties to stop your dog’s claws from scratching the floor or to protect his precious paws from the elements and rocky terrain, the right booties can cushion and safeguard your pup’s paws.

We considered many different factors when searching for the best dog booties. We looked at comfort, durability, sturdiness, ease of cleaning, and water resistance.

We also looked at aggressive climates as a factor. Booties should be warm enough for extreme cold.

We looked for fleece-lined boots and thermal properties to keep precious dogs toasty warm, however cold it is outside.

We also looked for boots that could stand up to water activities and a variety of terrains.

We also considered boots suitable for all life stages, including seniors and dogs with disabilities.

We ensured that the products had some support and that these were reflected in user reviews.

Finally, we searched the internet for top pet products that dog owners everywhere loved for their furry little friends.

We looked at Amazon Choice products and other top toys from online retailers like Amazon, Walmart, manufacturers’ websites, and Chewy.

From all of these sources, we purchased and tested 13 dog boots. 10 of them made our list of the best dog boots.

Finally, we round out our review with 3 honorable mentions that didn’t quite make the cut.

If you’re hunting for the most effective and durable dog booties, this set from QUMY is hard to beat and our overall favorite.

We saw a range of sizes to suit most breeds. There are simple measuring instructions provided, so you make certain of getting the snuggest fit for your dog.

We loved the bottoms of these boots, which are designed to be completely non-slip, so you’ll have no problems if your pup wears them on tile or hardwood flooring.

Reflective Velcro straps are a nice touch at night and keep your pup safe around the clock.

We noticed that the split seam opening on these boots is wide and roomy, while easily adjustable straps ensure a comfy fit.

Make sure your dog’s paws stay protected at all times while wearing these rugged yet stylish booties. When you get home, throw the boots in the washing machine.

Whether you’re hiking on the trail, down by the beach, or pounding the city streets, make sure those paws stay safe.

The reflective trim helps keep your dog visible at night.

Made from a highly breathable mesh, your dog’s paws will stay nicely ventilated all day long, however tough the workout and terrain.

Despite staying so nicely on your dog’s paws, it couldn’t be much easier to get your pup in and out of these boots.

With a hook-and-loop closure system, you’ll have these things on and off in an instant, making you and your dog happy!

Product Ratings

Easy to Clean5/5
Water Resistance5/5

Dimensions: 6 x 3  x 8 inches | Weight: 6.38 ounces | Brand: XPAWLORER | Material: Rubber and Fabric | Dogs: All Breeds

What We Liked

  • Ergonomic shape to help with senior dogs
  • Can be used indoors or outdoors
  • The reflective line for night visibility

What We Didn’t Like

  • Sizes run big
  • Only comes in the color black
  • Cannot be used in deep water because of waterproofing

Next up, we have something for all your bargain hunters out there with the best cheap dog booties that won’t stiff you in terms of value and performance.

When buying dog booties, opt for a larger size if there is any doubt about the fit.

We found these booties in sizes to suit most breeds, but these booties are sadly only available in black.

The little yellow paw prints emblazoned on these boots are nice, but we would love some color selection.

We loved the underside of these boots because they are coated to prevent your pup from slipping around even if the ground underfoot is slippery.

This makes it safer for senior dogs to wander around the house and yard.

We were thrilled with the pair of fasteners that make it incredibly easy to get your pup in and out of these things.

Once he has them on, they’ll be comfortable enough to wear all day before you pop them in the washing machine, ready for your next trip out with your dog.

4. Best for Sensitive Paws: Muttlucks Original Fleece-Lined Dog Boots

Product Ratings

Easy to Clean5/5
Water Resistance5/5

Dimensions: 10 x 12.25 x 2 inches | Weight: 11.2 ounces | Brand: Muttluck | Material:  Nylon and Leather | Dogs: All Breeds

What We Liked

  • 7 high fashion colors to choose from
  • Made with leather to provide extra traction
  • Fleece-lined for extra warmth

What We Didn’t Like

  • Some dogs have trouble keeping them on
  • Sizing can be problematic
  • Some quality issues with seams and rough fabric

These Muttlucks booties are back-to-basics yet deceptively effective if you want to protect your dog’s feet when he’s walking up the beach, running on sharp gravel, or running on hot city streets.

We were pleasantly surprised to see so many colors. Muttlucks come in 7 colors to suit any temperament and the usual range of sizes.

These booties are so fashionable that there’s no reason not to get your pup some boots to match his outfit.

We loved the leather soles on these booties that gave our pups some valuable added traction, while self-tightening straps keep these things tight on those precious paws.

If you live somewhere with a slightly cooler climate, your dog will appreciate the fleece lining in these booties to keep him toasty year-round.

Add the great traction, and this is a great winter boot.

We thought that the reflective straps ensuring nighttime safety were perfect, and we love the safety touches on this stylish bootie.

5. Most Waterproof: Neoprene Paw Protector Dog Boots

Product Ratings

Easy to Clean5/5
Water Resistance5/5

Dimensions: 8.66 x 3.78 x 2.95 inches | Weight: 7.37 ounces | Brand: Neoprene | Material: Rubber and Neoprene | Dogs: All Breeds

What We Liked

  • Reflective strip for nighttime walking
  • Made with a rubber sole for increased traction
  • Made with neoprene so they’re waterproof

What We Didn’t Like

  • Not the best for indoor traction
  • Not recommended for short-pawed dogs due to sizing
  • Doesn’t hold up with extreme use

Neoprene is a fabric used to make wetsuits. These dog booties are fashioned from this performance fabric to give your dog’s paws ultimate water protection.

We found sizing running from S through XXL, so you should find boots to fit most dog breeds, shapes, and sizes.

We noted that the rubber sole is rugged and built to stay the distance while providing some serious traction along the way.

Even though it’s not the best option for indoor traction, this boot is great for outdoor activities.

Whether you live with snow and ice, the streets get red hot in the summer, or you frequently head out on hiking trails and rough terrain, investing in the best dog booties is a must.

As with all the best boots, we love the reflective stripes, so our pets stay safe at night, too. Comfortable, lightweight, and remarkably easy to clean, too; what’s not to love?

6. Best for Night Safety: Kurgo Dog Shoes

Product Ratings

Easy to Clean5/5
Water Resistance5/5

Dimensions: 1.75 x 4 x 6.25 inches | Weight: 14.4 ounces | Brand: Kurgo | Material:  Mesh and Synthetic Leather | Dogs: All Breeds

What We Liked

  • These work for every season
  • Lightweight design for easy wear
  • LED lights for in water and nighttime activities

What We Didn’t Like

  • LED lights may not stand the test of time
  • Can slip off of dogs paws if not secured well
  • Inside material can be rough and may need dog socks with it

Kurgo serves up a half-dozen sizes of these magnificent orange and black dog booties that look great and keep your adorable pup’s paws safe, whatever the terrain or weather.

These boots are made from polyester webbing for comfort and durability.

The breathable mesh lets our pup’s paws breathe even if we’re out all day. We thought this lightweight bootie was wonderful as an all-season must.

The kicker and differentiating factor with these booties, though? We loved the flashing LED lights built into the soles.

While other booties might take advantage of reflective strips, Kurgo ups the ante and ensures that your pup will be the brightest on the block.

We thought that the crowning glory of these wonderful dog booties is the lifetime guarantee allowing you to buy with complete confidence.

7. Best for Stylish Comfort: Winsoon Dog Australia Boots

Product Ratings

Easy to Clean4/5
Water Resistance2/5

Dimensions: 9.8 x 6.3 x 3.11 inches | Weight: 6.74 ounces | Brand: Winsoon | Material: PU leather and rubber | Dogs: All Breeds

What We Liked

  • Sherpa lined boots are made to keep paws warm
  • Easy to put on and to take off
  • Great option for the price

What We Didn’t Like

  • They are not water-resistant or proof due to the PU leather
  • Rubber soles tend to wear are quickly
  • Snow and ice can accumulate on the fur when in deep snow

The Winsoon Store is stuffed with pet equipment that delivers quality on a reasonable budget.

This boot is the fashion statement of this list. How do these Dog Australia boots perform, then?

These boots are available in a range of sizes from 1 through 8.

The largest size 8 boots are ideal for dogs with paws to 1.75 inches wide, so they don’t manufacture for giant dogs.

We thought these were the cutest booties on the list. These booties are made from soft and supple PU leather that’s also remarkably durable considering the comfort factor.

The fleece lining gives some valuable extra warmth when the temperature tumbles.

We could tweak the Velcro straps to ensure these boots snugly grip our dog’s paws without causing any discomfort.

The boots conform to the natural shape of your dog’s paws and offer first-class traction, as well as protecting your pup against the elements.

We used these in the snow, rain, and everything in between.

While these boots are impressively functional, they look great at the same time, making them a great choice for fashion-conscious pet parents.

You just might get tired of hearing, “Oh, how cute!”

8. Best for Hot Weather: HiPaw Breathable Dog Boots

Product Ratings

Easy to Clean5/5
Water Resistance4/5

Dimensions: 7.99 x 5.98 x 2.99 inches | Weight: 9.12 ounces | Brand: HiPaw | Material: Mesh | Dogs: All Breeds

What We Liked

  • A great option for summer use
  • Has reflective tape for night time activities
  • Machine and hand-washable for easy maintenance

What We Didn’t Like

  • These are limited to summer due to the breathable mesh
  • Return can include a restocking fee
  • Problems with staying on the paw

Summer heat can be brutal on soft dog paws.

Next up are some super-breathable boots on a budget from HiPaw, so you can give your dog a protective treat without spending a fortune.

We found that there were only four sizes to choose from here. These boots are Size 6, translating to an insole width of 2.6 inches.

This should make a fit for larger medium breeds.

The boots are the same size for front and back paws, so you’ll need to account for this by going larger if your pup has a paw size discrepancy.

We feel that any dog boot stands or falls on the strength of the sole.

Not only are these soles strong and durable, but they also provide excellent traction for your hound. This is especially important if you head out hiking with your dog.

We loved that the magic tape straps are in place to make it super simple to put these boots on or take them off when you want to take your dog outside.

If you take your dog out for some more vigorous activity, the protective toe caps will safeguard his precious paws against any damage from rocky terrain.

Decked out with reflective strips, you can ensure your dog stays visible if you head out for walks after dark.

We found that even though there isn’t a huge amount of choice in terms of sizing, these boots make a good fit. You won’t be disappointed.

9. Most Eco-friendly: PawZ Dog Boots

Product Ratings

Easy to Clean5/5
Water Resistance5/5

Dimensions: 2.5 x 1.5 x 8 inches | Weight: 1. 8 ounces | Brand: PawZ | Material:  Rubber | Dogs: All Breeds

What We Liked

  • Made from rubber which helps in rain and snow
  • These are recycled from biodegradable natural rubber
  • Comes in a 12-pack for multiple dogs or in case of loss

What We Didn’t Like

  • Limited use due to the large balloon shape
  • Unusual fit due to balloon shape, which may make some dogs unhappy
  • Tend to slip off while in use

Do you live in a cooler climate? If you need to protect your dog’s paws against the rain or snow, PawZ serves as one of the most effective options. How do these snow boots shape up?

These boots come in seven sizes. We found that these boots are small and aimed at dogs weighing 20 to 44 pounds and paws from 2.5 to 3 inches across.

We liked the boot’s rubber material because it will protect canine paws against snow and rain while your dog stays comfy and warm.

The balloon shape may not be the right shape for all dogs.

We had plenty of use out of these boots because they’re durable and quick and easy to clean.

The PawZ are made from natural rubber derived from rubber trees.

We loved that they were biodegradable once the dog had worn them out, allowing for a positive environmental footprint.

The value pack of 12 boots gives you something in reserve, and these booties are also very competitively priced.

Keep your pup safe from the snow, and invest in the PawZ boots for next winter.

10. Best for Durability: Petbobi Waterproof Dog Boots

Product Ratings

Easy to Clean5/5
Water Resistance5/5

Dimensions: 7.5 x 4 x 2 inches | Weight: 2.4 ounces | Brand: Petbobi | Material:  Rubber and Fabric | Dogs: All Breeds

What We Liked

  • These are waterproof making them perfect for water activities
  • Excellent customer service department
  • Good for most weather conditions

What We Didn’t Like

  • Getting the right size can be difficult
  • May not be durable enough for active dogs
  • Issues with slipping off while walking

Do you often take your dog to the beach or go out for walks when it’s raining?

There are many reasons you might need waterproof boots for your dog, and most booties on the market don’t deliver. Petbobi serves up cost-effective options in fine style.

There are five sizes available, and we love how fashionable these boots are!

The boots are finished in eye-catching neon orange, so your dog will stay visible even in gloomy conditions. He’ll feel well-dressed during walks.

We slipped these booties on and off with very little hassle. The opening at the ankle is designed for seamless access.

We loved the heavily reinforced sole that kept our dog’s paws protected, even on more challenging terrain.

If the boots get wet, your dog’s feet will stay dry: you can’t ask for much more than that.

The Winner

Overall, it was the Qumy Dog Boots for us. We loved how it performed across the board.

This dog boot checked all the boxes for fit, waterproofing, durability, comfort, maintenance, and sturdiness.

How to Choose the Right Dog Booties

Always consider your dog’s needs and where you live to ensure that you get the best possible option for your best friend.

Focus on these following elements, and you should find yourself the best boots the easy way, and your dog will thank you.

The first and most crucial factor is to get the sizing right. All manufacturers provide a chart along with instructions of varying degrees of clarity.

If you’re ever in any doubt, always opt for a size larger. When in doubt, check the reviews.

You should look for materials that combine comfort and durability while also guaranteeing protection for your pup’s paws.

Rubber and leather both work well in this regard. If you are used to heavy winters, consider fleece linings.

Waterproofing and Winterizing

The amount of waterproofing and weatherproofing you’ll look for in dog booties depends to a large extent on the climate where you love.

Make sure you find boots that offer adequate insulation if you experience lots of ice and snow where you love.

For further winterizing gear with your new booties, check out winter coats on BarkVA.

All dog boots should be easy for you to get your pup in and out of. Look for hook-and-loop closures or Velcro to expedite things.

There are also some ergonomic options to make it easier for the senior and disabled pet to roam indoors and out.

Anti-slip Grip

It goes unsaid that any dog booties you’re considering should be equipped with anti-slip soles.

Whether your pup is pottering around on some rocks, sliding in the rain, or running on grass, don’t set him up for a fall.

Speaking of rain, check out our guide for How to Make a Dog Raincoat on a budget!

How to Measure Your Dog’s Paws

Measure up your dog’s front paw by doing the following:

  1. Place your dog’s paw on a piece of paper, then press down on the top. This should replicate how he walks, and his paw spreads.
  2. Mark the left and right-hand sides of the paper, then measure up the distance between paws.
  3. Compare this measurement to multiple boot sizes and see where you are.
  4. Choose the larger size if your dog’s paw is in between sizes.

If your dog sustains a paw injury, he’ll keep on moving making the wound worse and possibly causing an infection.

You may want to consider a heated bed to help ease the pain. You can find some of our favorite choices in our 10 Best Heated Dog Beds guide.

Before you hustle out on your walk, make certain to work with your dog and his new booties.

Honorable Mentions

Here are more best dog booties options that didn’t make our list but are definitely worth some looking into.

 1. XSY&G Dog Boots, Waterproof Dog Shoes – Considered for Waterproof Dog Booties

These didn’t make our list because some customers had issues with their service department.

These boots are made from high-quality, wear-resistant fabric that repels dirt and grime and will help your puppy’s paw from injury and infection.

We loved the paw protection these gave, but we trusted the overall experience with Petbobi Waterproof Dog Boots

2. RUFFWEAR, Grip Trex Outdoor Dog Boots – Considered for Dog Hiking Boots

Hiking, trail running, and other outdoor activities can be rough on a dog’s paws. Luckily, all you need to avoid this is a pair of the best dog booties.

We loved this colorful and rugged dog boot that comes in blue spring, obsidian black, and red currant.

One of the issues that moved this to honorable mention was the lack of padding in the shoe.

3. CovertSafe& Dog Boots for Dogs

We found another fashionable choice for dog boots. Customers rant about how wonderful these were in a variety of settings.

We are joining dog owners everywhere who applaud the hardcore protection from heavy snow, desert conditions, and help senior dogs from slipping.

The problem we confronted was with the fit and flexibility of these booties, so we felt more comfortable recommending the Winsoon Dog Australia Boots.
