15 Best Reflective Dog Collars: High Visibility at night for you and your dogs safety

If you walk your dog at night, you need to make sure he stays seen, something not every basic collar will provide.

Today, we’ll be walking you through a comprehensive selection of the best reflective dog collars, all promoting extra visibility at night.

What are Reflective Dog Collars?

A reflective collar is the same as a regular collar in all senses except it places a sharper focus on nighttime visibility.

How is this achieved?

Well, typically through adding either reflective stitching or reflective strips of cloth to the collar.

Is it really worth the hassle of buying one of these special collars, though?

Why Should You Buy a Reflective Dog Collar?

If you rarely walk your dog at night, you don’t need to worry about a collar’s reflective nature.

Any caring pet owner who walks Rover after dark, though, should seriously consider ensuring he stays seen at a distance. Buying a reflective dog collar will help you achieve this.

Before we push on with our reviews, a few words on what to look for in high visibility collars.

How To Choose the Right Reflective Dog Collar?

Choosing the right reflective dog collar is pretty straightforward really. Focus on the following pointers:

  • Type of collar: Regular collars are versatile and ideal for most dogs, but if your pooch is prone to pulling or slipping the leash, a harness may offer you more control
  • Size: It’s vital to get a collar that fits your dog properly, even if the collar is adjustable. Collars come with size charts outlining the neck sizes of dogs they are suitable for. You should find you can slip two fingers between your dog’s fur and the collar if it is properly fitted
  • Materials: Most reflective dog collars are made from nylon and/or neoprene, a material usually used for making wetsuits. These are hardwearing and easy to care for
  • Reflective material: Ensure the collar has reflective material all around for maximum visibility in the dark
  • Hardware: The buckles on reflective collars are made from metal or nylon. While metal hardware is longer-lasting, plastic buckles are much lighter and easier on your dog

We have tried a lot of harnesses on various breed and size of dog and PoyPet is the best in terms of fit and function. I like this harness because it is easy to make adjustments on the size. Our Doodle falls in the middle of the size range for medium, so he has room to grow if needed.

With quick-release buckles and an ergonomic fit, this easy-care collar fits the bill if you frequently walk your dog at night.

This product came today and I was amazed at the quality of it. The felt liner made it comfortable for my pups to wear and the reflective stitching is very handy for late night walks. The buckle latches on well. The colors are very vibrant and stand out, even with my thick/long haired dogs.

3)Best Harness: BABYLTRL Big Dog Harness (4 out of 5 Stars)

Blue Nylon Reflective Dog Harness with Collar

  • Neck size: 11.8 to 21.6 inches
  • Weight: 6.74oz
  • Dimensions: 6.57 x 5.94 x 2.68 inches

For anyone with a large breed prone to pulling, this harness from BABYLTRL is a must. You’ll find you can control your bigger pup more easily than when using a regular leash and collar, but you won’t choke him in the process.

Designed for large breeds from the ground up, this is the smallest version available, making a smooth fit for pitbulls, golden retrievers, and German shepherds. There are 3 larger sizes up for grabs, too.

The sturdy metal hardware and lockable buckle complete a winning package, although a handful of consumers complain about the durability of the straps on this reflective collar.

What We Liked

  • Secure harness for bigger breeds
  • Stop pulling without choking
  • Grab handle and leash attachment

What We Didn’t Like

  • Straps could be stronger

Made this purchase 07/10/18 for my pit bull. She HATES harnesses, most not making it beyond 48 hours of their initial contact with her. However this one, after making the adjustments to get the fit right with the easy snap buckles and the wonderful on/off lock feature; she couldn’t wait to put it back on and go outside! The dual d-rings make it nice to have different places for leash placement, especially when training.

4)Best Color & Sizes: Taglory Reflective Dog Collar (4 out of 5 Stars)

Pink and Black Nylon Reflective Dog Collar with White Stitching

  • Neck size: 8 to 12 inches
  • Weight: 0.63oz
  • Dimensions: 12 x 0.59 x 0.16 inches

Next up comes a highly reflective collar with a lockable plastic side-release buckle from Taglory. This collar is available in a class-leading choice of sizes and colors.

The nylon collar has a padded neoprene inner, and it manages to combine comfort with durability. The high-quality nylon is a reflective material offering maximum visibility at night.

While the vast bulk of user feedback for this collar is positive, we unearthed some gripes about the color bleeding into dog’s fur, a particular problem if your dog has pale fur.

What We Liked

  • Lockable side-release buckle
  • Highly reflective straps
  • Softly padded neoprene

What We Didn’t Like

  • Some issues with colors fading

Rave Review

We love our collars! I accidentally ordered the wrong size for one dog and they were quick to respond with a new one! The colors are so vibrant and the name plates don’t jingle!! I will always have one of these for our dogs!

5)Top Seller: Blueberry Pet Essentials Adjustable Dog Collar (3.5 out of 5 Stars)

Cyan Colored Nylon Reflective Dog Colar

  • Neck size: 8 to 11 inches
  • Weight: 0.32oz
  • Dimensions: 0.1 x 3.6 x 8 inches

Tens of thousands of satisfied customers stand behind this bestselling personalized dog collar that also provides extra visibility at night.

This collar doesn’t win our vote for best personalized dog collar – see directly below for that – as the color-on-color stitching makes your dog’s ID hard to read.

Where this collar scores is in terms of its lightweight nature and an array of vibrant colors promoting superb nighttime visibility.

What We Liked

  • Superlight collar
  • Massive choice of colors
  • Personalize with your dog’s ID

What We Didn’t Like

  • Not easy to read dog’s details on collar

I love the quality of Blueberry pet products and these are no exception. I have a 70 lb German Shepherd puppy and they fit him well and are durable. Even though he chews on them after a bath sometimes, they show no signs of wear.

6)Best Personalized: LovelyDog Embroidered Collar (4 out of 5 Stars)

Reflective Dog Collar with Customized Dog ID

  • Neck size: 6 to 24 inches
  • Weight: 2.2oz
  • Dimensions: 8 x 6.5 x 0.7 inches

Our favorite personalized collar comes from LovelyDog with the embroidered ID super-simple to read at a glance, ensuring your furball can be easily identified if he runs astray.

Available in a cross-section of sizes to suit most breeds,  the thicker collars measure 1 inch across and make a great fit for larger and more energetic breeds.

The eco-friendly plastic buckle is a cinch to use, while the reflective stitching on this collar makes it a great choice if you take nighttime walkies with Rover.

What We Liked

  • Embroidered dog ID on collar
  • Excellent spread of sizes
  • Reflective stitching

What We Didn’t Like

  • Reported issues with lifespan

Angela Brown

I love how reflective this collar is! My dog is mostly black so it’s hard to see him when it’s dark outside, with this collar it’s easy to keep an eye on him. It seems to be well made, the lettering is easy to read and is not covered up by the sizing adjusters (which was a common issue in the reviews for similar collars). It shipped fast and actually arrived several weeks before the estimated arrival date. Very happy with this purchase!

7) RUFFWEAR Front Range Dog Harness (4.5 out of 5 Stars)

Green Adjustable Dog Harness

  • Neck size: 13 to 17 inches
  • Weight: 0.22 pounds
  • Dimensions: 9.45 x 7.28 x 0.19 inches

Any dog owners looking for a harness that works well for daily use should consider this front range RUFFWEAR harness.

One of the most adjustable harnesses out there, this XX-small harness helps you to control smaller dogs safely and without causing them any discomfort.

Not only is this harness ideal for keeping your dog from slipping away – strong pullers set aside here – but it’s also studded with reflective trim so he’ll stay seen at night.

What We Liked

  • Ideal for all-day wear
  • 4 adjustment points for snug fit
  • Helps Fido stay visible at night

What We Didn’t Like

  • Not great for strong pullers

After 4 months (photos are current condition, looks almost new!) of daily runs – through the woods and trails – and regular use, this vest still assures quality and security for my 6mo old husky. He’s VERY active and tough on just about every product we put in front of him. This held-up through teething, heavy rain runs, and many aggressive pulls from my pup. Definitely feel like this more than paid for itself in the ability for me to safely run my dog and get that energy out.

8) CollarDirect Reflective Dog Collar ( 3.5 out of 5 stars)

Orange Adjustable Reflective Nylon Dog Collar

  • Neck size: 14 to 18 inches
  • Weight: 2.1oz
  • Dimensions: 2.87 x 2.09 x 1.34 inches

CollarDirect serves up a collar that’s highly reflective and super-effective. What do you get for your money, then?

Easy to care for and machine-washable, this nylon collar is built to last despite its pretty keen price point.

The webbing has a reflective trim to promote visibility at night, and this collar is available in a variety of colors to suit all tastes.

What We Liked

  • Nylon webbing is rugged and comfy
  • Easy-care collar
  • Bright colors for nighttime visibility

What We Didn’t Like

  • Some fraying over time reported

Rave Review

First, the reflection is really neat when the light hits it. In the dark, it almost looks like jewels. I like the safety factor there. Also the nylon buckle has a locking mechanism, which I really like so it doesn’t accidentally unclip. As for sturdiness, they do the job as expected and I’ve had no issues. I do take the collars off a couple of times, and there hasn’t been an issue with the buckle sturdiness. Buy with confidence – I bought three collars and two leads from these folks. My only ding was on durability as my puppy lab who plays with my older lab A LOT, has frayed the older labs a bit, but I think it’s someone expected. It’s more of a cotton versus stiff nylon – so…

9) Bolux Dog Harness (4 out of 5 stars)

Red Nylon Dog Harness with Black Straps and Reflective Strips

  • Neck size: 10 to 11.5 inches
  • Weight: 3.52oz
  • Dimensions: 15.75 x 11.81 x 0.39 inches

This understated dog harness from Bolux is a neat choice if you have a smaller breed at home. Choose from multiple colors and designs and control your smaller dog without damaging his fragile throat.

Pressure is well-distributed instead of choking your dog, and there is a nylon handle that helps you maneuver your dog at close quarters.

Not only is this one of the best reflective dog collars you’ll find, but this brand also has a genuine commitment to customer care, so you’ll have no concerns if anything goes amiss.

What We Liked

  • Perfect fit for smaller breeds
  • Nylon grab handle
  • Distributes pressure evenly without choking

What We Didn’t Like

  • Quite awkward to adjust with harness on

Rave Review

Have you ever been looking for a product, bought and returned numerous different types and none actually work the way you want them to? Then just when you have almost given up something comes along and works exactly like you wanted it to? Thats this harness. Put it on, adjusted the straps, fits snug but not too snug. No choking or coughing and minimal pulling.

10) TagME Reflective Nylon Dog Collar (3.5 out of 5 stars)

Pink Colored Reflective Nylon Dog Collar

  • Neck size: 8 to 12 inches
  • Weight: 0.7oz
  • Dimensions: 7.32 x 1.42 x 0.67 inches

As we pass the midpoint of our reviews, TagME delivers a fine example featuring a dual layer of reflective stitching for visibility around the clock.

This collar comes in an impressive range of colorways, both base colors and color combinations. You’re spoiled for choice with sizes, too. This XS collar is suitable for much smaller breeds.

While this collar is thin and lightweight, if you have a dinky dog, this an advantage rather than a drawback. Setting aside possible lifespan issues, this reflective collar is well worth a second look.

What We Liked

  • Fantastic selection of colors and sizes
  • Durable quick-release buckle
  • Twin lines of reflective stitching

What We Didn’t Like

  • Reasonable thin collar

Rave Review

Mike Jones

The price of this collar was so low it made me skeptical about the quality.

But I bought a size small for a 3 month old pup and figured if it was too cheesy I would be buying a new one anyway in a few months.

Well to my surprise this item is just as well made as the more expensive ones found in petco or petsmart.

11) Regal Dog Products Reflective Dog Collar (4 out of 5 stars)

Orange Reflective Dog Collar with Steel Buckle

  • Neck size: 13 to 19 inches
  • Weight: 3.2oz
  • Dimensions: 6.06 x 2 x 1.89 inches

Regal Dog’s reflective collar might not be especially cheap, but it’s among the most highly reflective collars out there thanks to the wide strip designed to shine under artificial light at night.

If your dog spends a lot of time in the water, whether paddling in the ocean or getting caught in the rain, you’ll appreciate the easy-care nature of this collar. It won’t get soggy and smelly either.

You get an all-metal buckle and rugged metal hardware, giving you a collar that’s not only one of the best for promoting visibility at night, but also built to last.

What We Liked

  • One of the most reflective dog collars
  • Remarkably rugged
  • Double buckle and robust D-ring

What We Didn’t Like

  • Not suitable for aggressive chewers

Rave Review

Chris Miller

I switched my dogs from nylon collars to these because we live where it rains a lot and they were getting terrible smells on their collars from always getting wet. These have saved us from the funky odors, and neither of them have shown any sign of wear except cosmetically (sctratches, etc.) We got one for our 80 pound German shepherd and one for our 45 pound border collie.

12) BARKBAY No-Pull Dog Harness (3.5 out of 5 stars)

Black Dog Harness with White Reflective Stitching

  • Neck size: 20 inches
  • Weight: 2.4oz
  • Dimensions: 9 x 7.5 x 0.7 inches

This BARKBAY no-pull dog harness is made from a high-quality nylon material that’s also superlight and won’t get ripped up if your dog plays in the bushes.

Durable metal hardware allows you to attach your leash to this highly reflective collar. While it’s comfortable and ideal for controlling more placid dogs, if your furball is prone to pulling, users claim this harness doesn’t cope so well when the dog is larger and more energetic.

The handle on top of the harness makes it easy for you to grab your pooch in an emergency and improves overall maneuverability.

What We Liked

  • Lightweight, rip-resistant nylon
  • Plushly padded for all-day wear
  • Super-reflective stripes

What We Didn’t Like

  • Not suitable for really big breeds

Rave Review

We have two big, full-figured Akita girls who pull so hard while we walk them that we have been calling them The Freightliners”. I have been thinking about getting some of these “no pull” harnesses for about the last year or so. I pulled the trigger and bought two of these harnesses for our two, still growing Akita girls (75 and 85 pounds a piece) So I heartily, enthusiastically recommend you harnesses to others. Thank you so much. We actually really enjoy our walks now, instead of dread them.”

13) Max and Neo Nylon Dog Collar (4 out of 5 stars)

Red Nylon Dog Collar with Reflective Stitching

  • Neck size: 17 to 25 inches
  • Weight: 2.4oz
  • Dimensions: 3.8 x 0.9 x 0.9 inches

Max and Neo has a deep bench of dog collars including this wide nylon reflective collar. How does it stand and fall, then?

Aside from some reported issues with the tag holder snapping off, most user testimony is positive, with consumers praising the width and reflectivity.

Available in a variety of colors and multiple sizes, this collar gives you everything you need and nothing you don’t.

What We Liked

  • Wide nylon collar
  • Pair of reflective bands
  • Lockable tab

What We Didn’t Like

  • Tag holder is weak

Sarah M Cummings

These are great collars. They look beautiful on my girls! The clasp of on of them did break, but after contacting the company, they replied very quickly and put in a replacement for me right away. I love that these are tough collars but do have the warranty just in case anything does go wrong, and love that they also donate to animal shelters! Love the product and the company!

14) NIMBLE Dog Collar (4 out of 5 stars)

Yellow Polyester Dog Collar with Grey Reflective Strip in the Middle

  • Neck size: 15.35 to 24.8 inches
  • Weight: 3.98oz
  • Dimensions: 11 x 2 x 1.2 inches

As we near the end of our reflective dog collar reviews, we have a fluorescent collar from NIMBLE that’s also laced with cloth stripes for even better nighttime visibility.

Waterproof and smell-proof, this collar can cope with plenty of rough and tumble.

Pull-tested to 750 pounds and featuring a single rugged D-ring, this reflective dog collar is well worth popping on your shortlist.

What We Liked

  • Fluorescent with reflective cloth stripes
  • Coated polyester for maximum lifespan
  • 100% money-back guarantee

What We Didn’t Like

  • Plastic buckle is flimsy

Rave Review

Avid Reader

Our dog is constantly in the water. Whether it be the pool or the Gulf. This collar is perfect for that. It has high visibility. Easy to put on and off. And it doesn’t get all wet and stinky. I’ve even trained him now not to go in the water unless he has his special swim time collar on.

15) Blueberry Pet Reflective Dog Collar (3.5 out of 5 stars)

Violet Cyan and Black Woven Dog Collar with Reflective Stitching and Blueberry Logo

  • Neck size: 14.5 to 20 inches
  • Weight: 0.18oz
  • Dimensions: 20 x 0.75 x 1 inches

Last but not least, Blueberry has a colorful collar that lacks the full reflective properties of some of the competition.

You get a massive selection of sizes and colors to choose from, and the playful patterns make a neat change from the solid blocks of color found on most collars.

The hardware is durable and strong enough to withstand bigger breeds pulling, resulting in a versatile and attractive collar that’s also keenly priced.

What We Liked

  • Sizes and colors to suit all dogs
  • Double D-ring
  • Robust buckle

What We Didn’t Like

  • Reflective stitching not throughout webbing

Rave Review

These are very cute collars! At first I wasn’t sold on the two D rings because they seemed bulky, but after the collars softened up a bit they don’t seem so prominent. I bought two, a medium size for my 45lb dog and a large for my 85lb dog. The picture is the 85lb dog. It’s at its smallest setting to fit her. The reflective properties are woven in to the pattern so they look nice and have the added safety feature.
